NetBIOS

<aside> 📌 **NetBIOS (Network Basic Input/Output System) is a protocol used for communication over a local area network (LAN).

NetBIOS provides a way for computers on a network to share resources such as files, printers, and applications. It uses a broadcast-based naming system, which means that computers can be identified by name rather than by IP address.

The protocol has some security issues, as it was designed for use in trusted environments and does not provide any built-in encryption or authentication mechanisms. As a result, NetBIOS is now considered outdated and has been largely replaced by newer protocols such as TCP/IP and SMB/CIFS.

Some potential attacks on NetBIOS include eavesdropping on NetBIOS traffic, user spoofing, denial of service attacks, brute force attacks, and malware propagation.**
